What if I told you steem isn't going to pay the bills forever to host those images? They are NOT stored on the blockchain. What about those d.tube videos? Did you know most of them are gone within weeks,months at most, for instance.. @exyle (one of my favorites, been following him for a long time, great guy) uploads his vlogs regularly to d.tube.... and check this out,..
5 minutes of loading.... Nada, I refresh the page, and the same....
And before @prettynicevideo pops in saying "but sn0n, it has to be your connection, it sucks..."
Look woman.... I did a test ok ..
And @chesatochi's video loaded insantly... so it's not my connection (;
It's like this for a LOT of d.tube content... It's hard to find videos that will play after a short time.. once they are a few months old, most will fail.
Now, why aren't content Creators pinning the posts themselves in a IPFS media folder of their own? Because it costs too much? Isn't that why you are on steem? To get paid.. use that money to be self sustaining guys!!! It's not just the creators that are the problem... It's also the services... D.tube makes a LOT of money, their steem wallet currently has $62,000 in it...why isn't that going towards storage and sustainable futures?
The funny thing, d.tube was a weekend project that got too big, it wasn't meant to be YouTube competitive, steemians promoted it and bragged about it and pumped it up and made it something it wasn't... Now along comes 3speak... @theycallmedan I love you man, but how many legal demands will it take before your project crumbles? They make money off of ads.. they make money off of upvotes... They make money making money.... To make more money, but what happens when their lawyers fees aren't being paid? Oops, there goes all the videos again..
Content Creators NEED to be self hosting.... Media Publishers and Storage providers come and go, and they always will,.... Media is too large to store on the blockchain, so store an address on the blockchain to your server, so that your audience can find it when those providers shut their doors... And don't buy the disenfranchised bullshit... It's all a ruse to stir emotion with the intent to distract and divert attention to them. If they, the content creators, cared that much, they would host it themselves, maybe put it into torrent files for all to love and adore while strengthening the platform (and fuck Justin Sun and his Tron bullshit, torrent is open source, free and decentralized. OFF of the blockchain, it's older technology) but... They just want to make more money advertising... Conflicting ideals abound in this weird steem world... It's fun to navigate tho.... Personally, I don't own anything I post to steem, it's not my data, I just collect pennies while playing on the platform. And that's ok to me if and when it all goes up in smoke like that blunt just did. Because I had a good time, made some nice memories, and know that everything dies.
If this made you think at all, please please please comment, upvote (or fuck, downvote it) and re-steem.... ^>^ have a nice day all. I love you, namaste.
